Lansing — Rep. Betsy Coffia, a Democrat from Traverse City, is calling on the Democratic-controlled Michigan Senate to hold a hearing to review Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's latest appointment to the state panel that regulates energy companies.

In a letter Monday, obtained by The Detroit News, Coffia, who serves on the House Energy Committee, cited rising electricity bills as a reason the Senate should look into Whitmer's selection of Shaquila Myers, a former adviser to the governor, for a spot on three-member Michigan Public Service Commission, which has the power to approve rate hikes.
