When Michigan veterans return home, they should not have to fight a second battle accessing the benefits they have earned. However, that is precisely what is happening. Many veterans struggle to navigate the complex federal benefits system, and too few have access to trained Veteran Service Officers (VSOs) who can guide them through it.Senate Bills 207 and 208 offer a real solution. SB 207 would establish the Michigan Veterans Coalition Fund, and SB 208 would create a grant program to support local organizations that provide accredited VSOs. These officers assist veterans in accessing health care, education, disability benefits and other services.
