PEARISBURG, Va. (WDBJ) - Recovery from substance abuse isn’t easy. It’s not pretty.

Many of us might watch friends or even family go through the process, but it’s one Emilie Kessinger lived through herself.

“I used drugs. I tried my best to get off of it on my own, and I see in my process that that was the missing piece for me, was not me trying to figure it out by myself, it’s going to others and asking them for help that that was the key,” said Kessinger.

Now, she’s the key for others in Giles County. Kessinger the lead peer at The Day Won Giles County Recovery Center.

She’s a helping hand for people struggling with substance abuse, connecting them with the resources they need that’s now available.
