A California man has been identified after a crash on Mount Rose Highway near Douglas Fir Drive on Aug. 7, though authorities say his death was not caused by the crash.

Nevada State Police said troopers responded about 11:02 p.m. to a single-vehicle crash involving a black 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS 450. Investigators say the SUV was traveling westbound when it went onto the westbound shoulder, hit a guardrail, crossed into the opposite lanes, struck another guardrail and came to rest on the eastbound shoulder.

The driver, 52-year-old Charles German of Dana Point, California, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two adult passengers were uninjured.

NSP said witness statements and vehicle damage were inconsistent with a fatal crash. The cause of death is pending review by the Washoe County Regi
