GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - One of the trees in Gainesville that was planted in memory of the University of Florida students killed in 1990 was struck by a vehicle on Thursday evening.

Officials say a car crashed into a palm tree on Southwest 34th Street in Gainesville. The driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The trees were placed in the median in 2000 and dedicated to Sonja Larson, Christina Powell, Christa Hoyt, Manuel Taboada, and Tracy Paules.

The tree with the Manuel Taboada plaque appears to have been struck by a car. In May , a different tree was replaced after it died.
