ALLEGAN, Mich. (WOOD) — A break in Allegan High School's roof rain drain system last month is being blamed for water damage to the gym in the middle of renovation.
The district is making adjustments to gym classes and athletics as the first day of classes for Allegan Public schools is little more than a week away.
Superintendent James Antoine said the break happened July 28 during a heavy rainstorm. He remembers noticing the heavy rain outside his office late last month. Soon after, he got the call from the construction crew at the school notifying him of the piping break.
On Thursday, the floor was still bare concrete. Standing in the gym Thursday, Antoine told News 8 that the water had pooled under the floor.
