BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - At the most recent EBR metro council meeting, nearly $2 million was approved for distribution to several different agencies.

“It’s something we desperately needed,” said EBR district attorney Hillar Moore.

The money comes from the pockets of pharmaceutical companies that the state says played a role in the opioid crisis.

Settlement funds are expected to trickle to the state through the year 2038. Totaling $600 million, according to the Louisiana legislative auditor.
