FARMINGTON, N.M. —

A detention center officer is facing a battery charge after an investigation into an inmate being assaulted.

Damian Etcitty, 35, is facing an aggravated battery charge after video camera footage was reviewed. It happened in the male shower area at the San Juan County Detention Center on Aug. 5.

Etcitty and the inmate got into a verbal argument that turned physical. Body camera audio captured the inmate refusing to remove his towel before receiving his clothing to get dressed.

The deputy for the San Juan County Sheriff's Office found providing clothing first was normal procedure by detention staff.
