NORMAN — Oklahoma saw veterans such as Woodi Washington, Dez Malone and Kani Walker leave its cornerback room after last season.

That attrition could’ve prompted a look to the transfer portal for replacements. Yet, the winter and spring portal periods came and went. OU didn’t add a corner.

Why? Maybe Brent Venables, the Sooners’ coaching staff and OU’s front office didn’t see a transfer they really wanted. The corner market seemed to be overzealous relative to the caliber of players available. But, the Oklahoma staff also felt good about doubling down on the younger cornerbacks still on their roster.
