INDIANAPOLIS — The new director at Indianapolis Animal Care Services is no stranger to the shelter in town. Director Amanda Dehoney-Hinkle started her career at IACS.
"This feels like coming home. This is where my heart is, and where I want to, you know, put my passion just pour my passion into this and make it the best that it can absolutely be," Dehoney-Hinkle said.
Over the years, the shelter has dealt with serious overcrowding. IACS currently has 226 dogs, which is over capacity, and 143 cats, which is near capacity. The current facility is more than 20 years old and covers 24,000 square feet.
IACS says it's Indiana’s largest animal shelter and Marion County’s only shelter accepting every animal regardless of health, age, breed or temperament.
