FARGO — Thursday, Aug. 14, marked the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, and the Red River community honored those who served with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Fargo National Cemetery.
The 119th Air Wing of the North Dakota Air National Guard had the honor of presenting the wreath.
Capt. Charlie Adams with the U.S. Army read the names of all the World War II veterans laid to rest at the cemetery. Members of the Harwood American Legion gave a rifle salute, and two members of the Red River Valley Veterans Concert Band played a rendition of Echo Taps.
“It’s important to look at the past, ... remember how we stood up and how we came together as a nation, and that we had unity, and that we probably need to get back to that,” said Brandy Pyle, vice chair of the Fargo National Cem
