Just in time for a few rainy days, a long-standing blue-green algae bloom advisory has been lifted at Elk Lake.

The Capital Regional District says the advisory, which had been in place since October 2024, lifted on Thursday.

However, the advisories for Beaver Lake, Prior Lake and Thetis Lake all remain.

Blue-green algae can produce cyanotoxins which can cause illness in humans and lethal liver damage in dogs.

Health affects for humans can include: • skin, eye, nose and throat irritation • stomach pain, diarrhea and vomiting • headaches, muscle weakness and fever • severe illnesses that may result in death, such as: liver or kidney damage paralysis of skeletal and respiratory muscles • liver or kidney damage • paralysis of skeletal and respiratory muscles
