BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - Since the Big Beautiful Bill took effect last month, North Dakota resident Richard Craft has been worried about his SNAP benefits getting cut by the federal government.

The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities estimates over 5 million Americans will lose food assistance due to new work requirements and bureaucratic hurdles.

The law cuts $186 billion in federal SNAP support over 10 years.

Starting in 2027, states will have to cover up to 75% of SNAP benefits and administrative costs.

Craft describes the bill’s language as vague, and said he and other SNAP recipients aren’t sure what to expect.
