Police evacuated 26 Federal Plaza in Manhattan after envelopes containing white powder were discovered Thursday afternoon, officials said.
Police responded to the building — a part in which has reportedly been used as a “processing center” for ICE — around 3:40 p.m. after reports of a suspicious powder.
The building was evacuated.
“I want to also reassure you that there are no known injuries at this time,” Mayor Adams said on X, adding: “I also want to also reassure you that there are no known injuries at this time.”
“While we await test results from our federal partners, @FDNY Hazmat teams are on the ground to ensure the safety of everyone inside and outside of the building,” the mayor added. Originally Published: August 14, 2025 at 7:59 PM EDT
