Syracuse, N.Y. — ESPN recently ranked Demetres Samuel Jr. eighth on its list of most impactful college football freshmen for 2025. The 17-year-old joined Syracuse in the spring with plans of playing wide receiver and cornerback. So far, that plan hasn’t changed.

In the same year that Colorado’s Travis Hunter got drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars and Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders attempted to arrange a spring scrimmage against Syracuse, Fran Brown and the Orange have their own version of Hunter.
