NEW ALBANY, Ind. —

The Monon South Trail will soon be the longest consecutive recreational trail in the state of Indiana, and the trailhead will be in New Albany.

Officials broke ground on Thursday on the more than 60-mile biking, walking and running trail.

The trail will begin on 10th Street, near where the Ohio River Greenway meets the flood levee. It will go down Main Street to 4th Street, then down 4th Street past the Fairview Cemetery.

Right now, the trail starts in Mitchell, IN, and stretches all the way through Orleans, Campbellsburg, Salem, and New Pekin, ending in Borden. The goal is to connect Borden and this trail in New Albany.
