HAWKINSVILLE, Ga. — A Hawkinsville man was shot and killed just after midnight on Sunday, according to a press release from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

The GBI says the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office responded to a shooting on Malcom Nelson Road in Hawkinsville around 12:30 a.m. on Aug. 10. When deputies arrived, they found a man that had been shot.

Kyle Thomas Bennett, 40, was then taken to a hospital in Macon, where he died on Aug. 12, according to the release.

The press release says the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office asked the GBI to investigate on Aug. 10, two days before Bennett died.

The GBI says Bennett was shot during a fight. The shooter has claimed he was defending himself. The GBI has released no further information on the shooter at this time.
