MADISON, Wis. (WFRV) - After torrential downpours caused widespread flooding in Wisconsin, especially in and around Milwaukee, officials are advising those who seek contractors to practice caution when hiring.

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) said in a release that many will likely seek repair contractors, but that vulnerability often breeds scammers.

"Vulnerable consumers are often targeted by scammers," DATCP Secretary Randy Romanski said via a release. "Property owners should stay alert about the possibility that quick and easy fixes may be too good to be true."
