TEXAS, USA — The Texas Department of Transportation and local law enforcement agencies say they are increasing efforts to catch drunk drivers, especially with Labor Day on the way.

TxDOT told NewsWest 9 their "Drive Sober. No Regrets." campaign starts on Friday, leading to more law enforcement on the roads looking for drunk drivers.

The campaign is a way to reduce DWI crashes and fatalities.

"Drunk driving is 100% preventable," said Lieutenant Elizabeth Carter with the Texas Department of Public Safety. "When you choose to drink and drive, you put yourself and others on the road in danger. This reason alone should be enough to convince you to get a sober ride home."

TxDOT said almost 300 people were killed in DWI-alcohol-related crashes last year.
