FARGO — Fargo-Moorhead catcher Juan Fernandez belted a two-run homer in the fifth inning to lift the RedHawks past the Sioux City Explorers 8-3 on Thursday night in American Association baseball at Newman Outdoor Field.
"Really proud of our hitters," RedHawks manager Chris Coste said during his postgame radio interview.
The RedHawks (48-36) have won nine of their past 12 games.
Trailing 1-0 in the second inning, RedHawks center fielder Lamar Sparks knocked a two-run double and Peter Brookshaw scored on a sacrifice fly to make it 3-1.
Fargo-Moorhead added three more in the fifth inning. Shortstop Michael Hallquist hit an RBI single and Fernandez homered.
Sioux City added another in the sixth inning. RedHawks right fielder Dillon Thomas poked an RBI double and later scored on a wild pit
