The Mexico Public Safety Department is warning residents about an asphalt scam in the area.

According to a Facebook post from the department, asphalt scams are described as people tricking residents into paying 4 to 10 times more than an agreed upon cost for pouring asphalt.

Asphalt scams begin with people approaching residents saying they have left over asphalt from another job and claiming they will asphalt a driveway for a lower price to make money with the leftover material, according to the Facebook post.

MPSD said scammers will push ahead with work and end up pouring more asphalt than agreed upon. When people don't want to pay the increased price, they are threatened with civil suits.
