MADISON (WKOW) -- A Madison man was sentenced to nearly three years in federal prison for possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon.

Prosecutors said law enforcement tried to arrest 21-year-old Kory Washington in November, but he ran and threw a handgun as officers pursued him.

A federal judge noted that despite Washington's young age, he had already committed a "constant stream" of increasingly serious crimes and had gang ties.

Washington was sentenced to two years and 11 months in prison.
