(WKOW) – Shelter from the Storm in Madison is spread thin after rescuing more than 40 cats left behind at a rental property in Orfordville. Many of the cats arrived pregnant or underweight, with some adult cats weighing just six pounds.
Payton Pritzl is the chief operating officer at the shelter. "It's not typically the type of case we would take on. So we're not animal control, and so we don't usually go out and assess situations like these and trap animals and bring them into our rescue," Pritzl says.
The Rock County Sheriff’s Office incident report indicates the cats were abandoned by renters who moved out without taking them. The report shows that an officer walked through the property and found the home covered in cat feces and urine.
