SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - If you’re struggling to afford everything on your child’s back-to-school list, On Your Side has a few ideas.

Back-to-school shopping can be expensive, especially if you have more than one child. Per kid, it’s expected you’ll spend around $800.

First piece of advice: break up the budget. Don’t buy everything at once. Talk to your child’s teacher and see what they really need in the first few weeks.

“Breaking up the budget into smaller categories makes a difference,” said Liliana Lopez with Arvest Bank. “Have a plan on what we really need and what we are going to get.”

That $800 estimate includes clothes. Consider buying one new outfit and then heading to the thrift store. You can find name-brand clothes there for a fraction of the cost.
