OMAHA, Neb. —

Parents are speaking out about safety concerns after two new Elkhorn elementary schools violated city code , according to the city of Omaha.

Iron Bluff and Stone Pointe Elementary have not passed their final inspections for electrical, mechanical, plumbing and fire. Students went back to the classroom on Tuesday, Aug. 12.

KETV spoke to parents who say they are worried about their children in school during active construction.

"When I went to the open house, we saw the ceilings were completely open. All of the electrical wires were live. There was actually a gentleman working in his classroom doing the plumbing at the time," said Lucie Kousgaard, parent of a Stone Pointe student.
