SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — For nearly two decades, a Sioux City band has helped those 50 years and older find their love for playing instruments once again. And, in the process, has become a family and multi-generational band.

For many musicians, after high school and college, their instruments get put away, hardly being touched as life gets busy. And that's what happened to many folks who now play at New Horizons Band of Sioux City.

In 2007, the New Horizons Band of Sioux City was started by Dr. Lou Rossman as a way for anyone 50 years and older to find or rekindle their love for music.

"He gave them a new opportunity to pick up their old instrument or to pick up a new instrument," said Benjamin Mauritz, the band director for the New Horizons Band of Sioux City.
