CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - As the first day of school for students in Cape Girardeau Schools quickly approaches, an annual backpack giveaway event aims to help prepare students for the new school year.

The Cape Central Junior High cheerleaders helped fill hundreds of backpacks for students K-12 with essential items, including rulers, notebooks, crayons, paper, pencil boxes, and more.

Cheerleader Shelby Matukewicz says she’s happy to volunteer, “The cheer team loves to help out with the community because our community does so much for us with like sponsoring our seasons and everything, so this is just a small act of kindness that we can do to give back to our community.”
