FARGO — The first responders who serve the metro area are asking members of the public to step forward and again participate in the "Battle of the Badges" blood drive challenge.

This two day, multi-city event pits police officers versus firefighters in an effort to support patients in need of life-saving blood donations following the seasonal summer downturn in blood donations, according to a release from the American Red Cross.

For years, the Fargo Police Department has taken home the title.

"This year, the rivalry is bigger than ever. In addition to the classic police vs. fire showdown, the cities of Fargo and Moorhead will go head-to-head for the First Annual Battle of the Cities trophy, awarded to the community with the most blood donations," the release said.
