A brushfire that burned about a half-acre near White-and-Parker and Peters-and-Nall Roads tonight has been contained, officials said.
The blaze was first reported around 7:15 p.m. and involved only brush, according to the Maricopa Fire Department. No structures or nearby livestock were threatened or damaged.
Readers captured photos of an inferno sending a column of black smoke billowing into the air.
By 8:15 p.m., brush by the road was smoldering and Maricopa firefighters were dousing hotspots.
Crews from the Ak-Chin Fire Department assisted in the response.
The cause of the fire has not been determined, said officials.
