Beginning on Friday, a 56-hour closure is planned for southbound Highway 99 at Howsley Road. The freeway will close at 8 p.m. and not reopen until 4 a.m. on Aug. 18, according to CHP. Drivers headed south will have to merge into one lane on the northbound side.
CHP said to expect heavy delays all weekend. Commuters should plan ahead and allow extra travel time.
The roadwork is part of a levee improvement project. CHP and Caltrans will reportedly be on scene, keeping traffic flowing and workers safe.
