Marianne St. Pierre of Mashpee died on August 7 at Cape Cod Hospital. She was 78.

Born in Budapest, Hungary, to Magdalena (Susztar) and Agoston Kovago, she and her family escaped from Hungary during the Hungarian Revolution of 1956, settling in Whitinsville.

After graduating from Worcester State University with a master’s degree in education, she taught for more than 30 years in the Webster School system. She retired in 2002 as the head of the foreign language department.

During her retirement, she continued her love for teaching as a substitute teacher at Mashpee Middle-High School. She enjoyed beginning her day by drinking from her mug that read “Teacher life is the best life.”
