WATERBURY, Vt. (WCAX) - A rare kind of butterfly for our region is set to be released into the wild.

The Waterbury Public Library says it’s been growing monarch butterflies as part of its children’s programming this summer.

Out of one of the cocoons came one white monarch.

Several researchers believe the lack of color is the result of the bug not being able to synthesize the normal orange pigment.
