BENNINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Bennington is gearing up for Battle Day Weekend, commemorating one of the Revolutionary War’s most pivotal battles. At the heart of those celebrations is the Bennington Battle Monument, a towering 19-million-pound obelisk that needs serious repairs to save it for future generations.
“Some grounds are holy and sacred because blood was shed there. Some become that because we make them so. And this is an example of that -- still to this day, the tallest man-made structure in the state of Vermont,” said Jonah Spivak with the Vermont 250th Anniversary Commission.
