Chance the Rapper hasn't spoken to former collaborator Kanye West "in a long time".
The hip-hop star, real name Chancelor Bennett, co-wrote and featured on several tracks on West's 2016 album The Life of Pablo, including Ultralight Beam, Famous, and Waves.
But in an interview for the New Rory & Mal podcast on Thursday, Chance revealed that he hasn't been in contact with the controversial rapper, also known as Ye, and didn't work with him on his brand new album, Star Line.
"Nah, there's nothing from those sessions on this album. There was one that could've been raw," he said. "And I was gonna say... honesty is the best policy - I haven't talked to him in a long time. He's one of the most influential people in my music. He was at my wedding, our kids have hung out together. I'll always love Kanye, but just being honest, I haven't talked to him in a while. I feel like I've been hella busy - I'm working on s**t. He's obviously been busy. I be trying not to take opportunities to diss mother**kers or add too much to the story."
In recent years, West has courted controversy by expressing antisemitic views on social media and claiming he admired Adolf Hitler, leading to him being widely condemned and losing out on lucrative partnerships.
Chance went on to note that he will always hold a level of "reverence" for the Stronger rapper, even if they're not "necessarily peers", as he was a big fan of his debut 2004 album, The College Dropout.
However, the No Problem hitmaker hinted that he won't be reaching out to West anytime soon.
"I let people be people. I'm always gonna have my own opinions and I'ma always state my opinions," the 32-year-old added. "For the most part, I'ma just be me, I'ma let people be them. And so no, there's not a time where I'm like, 'Man, I gotta make sure I hit up Kanye before I put this album out or after I put this album out,' or anybody."
Representatives for West have not yet responded to the comments.
Star Line, Chance's first album since his 2019 debut, The Big Day, was released on Friday.
