100 years ago

On Aug. 15, 1925, decorating of Vancouver’s downtown streets began in advance of the Fort Vancouver Centennial. Festivities that were set to begin Aug. 17, with Gov. Roland Hartley speaking at the opening ceremony.

75 years ago

The winner of the Washington-Oregon Regional 1950 Fisher Body Craftsman’s Guild model car competition, Homer Wolfington, was set to land in Detroit on Aug. 15, 1950. All eight regional winners received a scholarship and attended the four-day convention in the Motor City. During his trip, Wolfington and the other winners toured the General Motors styling section, and took a short tour into Canada.
