A decision by agents representing the Department of Homeland Security to show up outside a facility where California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) was holding a press conference was hammered on MSNBC on Friday morning.
As the governor was explaining his plans to hold a referendum on redistricting his state, an army of California Border Patrol agents led by self-promoting Chief Patrol Agent Gregory Bovino swarmed the street in what is being called a "show of force" and intimidation.
After sharing the clip of agents decked out in military gear and wearing masks milling around on the sidewalk, MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough mocked the appearance as ridiculous-looking.
More to the point, he laughed and called it "stupid."
After sharing the clip of the street chaos, he asked co-host Jonathan Lemire, “Seriously, what are they doing?”
“The fact that they show up in masks at a political rally, I know, yes, this is ominous. This is blah, blah, blah,” he explained. “This really just looks stupid and plays right into Gavin Newsom's hands, plays right into the Democratic party's hands, and does the exact opposite thing that they would want to do, which is to suggest we're not here for political reasons. We're here, you know, to do our job to arrest those who are in the country illegally. So, yeah, that was — talk about a miss!”
“It's the implementation of those policies and ham-fisted attempts to intimidate like that, and people running around again with masks, sunglasses, no identification on them whatsoever,” he added. “It's not an American — it's not a sight that Americans want to see on the street, certainly not independents, not swing voters.”
