Washington, D.C., Attorney General Brian Schwalb has filed a lawsuit against President Donald Trump, accusing him of unlawfully seizing control of the capital city’s police force and attempting to extend that authority beyond legal limits.
In a statement Friday following the U.S. District Court filing, Schwalb denounced the move as “brazenly unlawful,” claiming it exceeded the president’s limited powers and amounted to “a hostile takeover of MPD.” He argued that the action undermines the District’s right to self-governance and endangers residents and visitors.
