The ESU Hornets football team will open their 2025 season on August 28 at home against Minot State.

The Hornets finished last season with a 7-4 record, marred by a three-game losing streak to Fort Hays State, Central Missouri, and Central Oklahoma in their final three games. That record was good enough for fifth place in the MIAA conference standings.

“We didn’t finish the season the way we wanted to last year,” said Head Coach Garin Higgins at the MIAA Media Day.

The preseason polls for this year expect much of the same for the Hornets. They placed fifth in the coaches poll and sixth in the media poll. Some of those expectations may come from the team losing 26 seniors, leaving several holes that will need to be filled.
