GARY — Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating the death of a man pulled from Lake Michigan at Marquette Park Beach on Wednesday evening.

Lake County 911 received a call at 6:17 p.m. reporting that an unresponsive adult male had been pulled from the water.

The man, identified as 57-year-old Joseph Davis, of Gary, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the report.

A witness reported seeing Davis struggling in chest-deep water before going under, prompting two Good Samaritans to enter the water and pull him out, officials said. Despite lifesaving efforts, Davis could not be revived.
