President Donald Trump is r e-establishing the Presidential Fitness Test . The goal is a worthy one.

The health of children in the United States has declined significantly over the past several decades. Chronic conditions, obesity and mental health problems are all on the rise. As a result, Americans are 80% more likely to die during childhood than residents of other prosperous nations.

Will the Presidential Fitness Test reverse that trend? Probably not. It certainly won’t hurt, but declining children’s health is a serious problem that has multiple causes. What we need are practical, bottom-up solutions.
