The RAF is ready to be deployed to provide air cover in Ukraine under peacekeeping efforts if a deal to end the war is reached with Russia.
British forces are poised to provide air and sea support, while Sir Keir Starmer is still prepared to put “boots on the ground” in Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire .
UK military officials are said to have drawn up plans that involve providing air cover over western Ukraine.
Defence Secretary John Healey said the UK was “ready to step in in the event of a permanent ceasefire” by leading a “multinational force” to protect Ukraine’s security.
He said the UK and France had formed the plans with the so-called ‘coalition of the willing’ nations, who have pledged to support Ukraine by helping to ensure any truce remains in place.
