WEST ASHLEY — An officer who fired shots at a suspected burglar in a grass lot of an apartment complex last year will not face criminal charges, officials say.

The State Law Enforcement Division investigated the incident after it occurred July 16, 2024. The officer involved was placed on paid administrative leave after the shooting, which is the normal procedure.

After a briefing by SLED agents and reviewing video footage, Ninth Circuit Solicitor Scarlett Wilson declined to prosecute the case against Charleston Police officer Conall Murphy, according to a letter submitted to SLED officials.
