CACHE COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — The Bear River Health Department has identified two human cases of the West Nile Virus (WNV). This news came just a day after the Salt Lake County Health Department announced the first human case in Utah this year.
Both individuals with infections live in Cache County.
In the past month, Box Elder and Cache Counties have reported several mosquito traps that tested positive for WNV, with more anticipated in the upcoming weeks, officials said in a press release.
WNV is transmitted through the bite of a mosquito to both animals and humans. The virus can cause illnesses with flu-like symptoms, including headaches, fever, and body aches. In rare cases, it can lead to severe neurological conditions.
