LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Laredo police continue to investigate how a three-year-old student at Sanchez Ochoa Elementary came into contact with narcotics after the child was hospitalized earlier this week.

Police spokesman Investigator Joe Baeza said Friday, August 15, the case began when the child suffered what was initially believed to be a medical episode inside a classroom. The child was taken first to a local hospital and then transferred to a children’s hospital outside of Laredo.

“Once blood analysis took place, that’s when it was discovered that there was some sort of narcotic that was found in the child’s system,” Baeza said.

Laredo ISD then asked police to take over the case, with the cooperation of the district administration and its police department.
