HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - In celebration of National Bao Day, some of Hawaii’s top Chinese eateries will face off for “Battle of the Bao” later this month.
Hosted by the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii, American Savings Bank and Trust for Public Land, the community-focused culinary event will take place Saturday, August 23, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Aala Park in downtown Honolulu.
The event will showcase the cultural and culinary significance of bao, known locally as manapua, by bringing together five beloved Chinatown restaurants to compete for the title of Honolulu’s “Best Bao.”
Those in attendance will have the opportunity to sample entries from each vendor and vote for a “People’s Choice” winner.
Actress Amy Hill will be among the cohort of judges.
