Greene County residents have a chance to provide in-person input on an upcoming highway project in Waynesburg later this month.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and Federal Highway Administration are hosting an open house on Aug. 28, to share information about a planned two-way turn lane on State Route 21 between Ely Avenue and Buchanan Avenue — a stretch that is currently one lane in either direction.

The road passes through a neighborhood and several prominent businesses, including Burgers and More, and Wayne Lumber & Supply. Since there is a high volume of local traffic, it’s risky for drivers to slow down to make left-hand turns, PennDOT said on the project’s website.

“This effort will help reduce rear-end and angle crashes due to vehicles stopping in the single lane,”
