BAY CITY, MI – A resolution aimed at regulating how Bay City police officers execute search warrants will return to the city commission’s agenda on Monday, Aug. 18, after being previously referred to Commissioner Benjamin Tenney for refinement .

The proposed measure would direct the city manager to develop a new policy requiring Bay City Department of Public Safety officers to physically knock on doors when serving warrants whenever safely possible. The policy would also mandate that officers identify themselves as law enforcement during all warrant executions.

The resolution concerns “ no-knock warrants ,” where officers enter properties without first announcing their presence, noting that such practices can pose significant safety risks to both law enforcement officers and resident
