Somerton – Local resident Gladys Anaya has been appointed as the newest member of the Somerton School District Governing Board to fill a vacant seat on that governing body.

On Tuesday, Anaya received the appointment from Yuma County Schools Superintendent Tom Hurt to take the seat vacated by Laura Torres, who resigned from the Governing Board in June.

Anaya is an educator with a 22-year career, having served in Somerton District schools and, for the past decade, at Arizona Western College (AWC).

On Tuesday, Anaya took part in her first Governing Board session.
