ATLANTA — The trial has begun for a man accused of killing and dismembering his wife , Melissa Wolfenbarger, a young Atlanta mother, decades ago.

Her case went unsolved and cold for more than 20 years. A break in the case led to the man who was allegedly behind her gruesome death -- her husband.

Christopher Wolfenbarger is facing murder and felony murder charges and is accused in an indictment of "inflicting homicidal violence" sometime between Dec. 10, 1998, and April 29, 1999. This, according to attorneys for the state, was a sticking point as to why he should not receive bond. A grand jury has indicted Christopher Wolfenbarger for the murder of Melissa Wolfenbarger.

Christopher was denied bond in October 2024, awaiting trial in jail.
