ATLANTA — Closing arguments were presented, and jury deliberations have begun in the trial for the ma n accused of fatally shooting a Fulton County sheriff's deputy on Thursday.
The arguments came just a day after Alton Oliver testified in his case .
Oliver told jurors that he shot James Thomas out of fear after Thomas drove by him multiple times, making unwanted sexual advances. Oliver said that after Thomas’ second pass, he returned — this time speeding toward him.
Deputy Thomas was found shot and killed in the driver's seat of a crashed vehicle around 4:30 a.m. on Bolton Road in the Riverside neighborhood in December 2022.
Oliver's defense attorneys went first on Thursday, discussing speculation about Thomas’ character and his off-duty police gear.
